The Green Challenge is intended to ease people into living more sustainably through completing 30 daily prompts that can kickstart their interest in living a more eco-friendly lifestyle and get them thinking about how their daily actions can impact the environment.

For many, the environment and what is happening to it seems so intense and distant that we feel almost powerless to do anything about it. We feel good when we do something like recycle materials properly, but in reality when compared to the seriousness of the situation, this action still feels small.

As interest in sustainability rises, I wanted to create something that can be used as a resource. The biggest goal of this project is to educate and make people aware of small sustainable changes they can make to their everyday routines, while showing them that their actions, no matter how small, can create a positive impact on the environment and their daily life.
People DO care about the environment! They just do not know what they can do to actually help better its state...

In order to notice a change, you have to start with your daily life. This challenge aims to turn that feeling of powerlessness into connecting with what is happening, and understanding the practical part that. you can play in reducing your impact on the environment. This was also created during the peak of COVID-19 and I addressed the circumstances by designing a challenge that could be completed at home.

Users navigate the challenge through a site, where they can come back daily for a new prompt and see their challenge progress. A prototype of the website is available here.

When the user signs up, they 'plant' the seeds for a better future. This is also a visual metaphor used to track their progress and make them see the impact of their actions. Each day they complete a prompt, the tree grows and reaches a full bloom at the end of the challenge.

The challenge went live on Instagram in May 2020, where the prompts were posted daily here.

After successfully completing the challenge, the user gets a Green Pack with branded goodies.
